Montrell Walden
Owner and head instructor
Montrell coached a high school swim team for many years before he turned the old bank on East Main Street into a pool. He teaches Purple on Tuesdays and Thursdays and works the front desk on Saturdays.
Seven instructors, one pool
Every instructor is a lifeguard and a water-safety instructor, is trained in CPR and first aid, and has passed a background check.
Amrita Sundaram
Instructor, White cap
Amrita taught elementary school before she came to the pool. She teaches White on Mondays and Wednesdays and on Saturday mornings, and she is the first face most new swimmers meet.
Madhu Gowda
Instructor, Yellow cap
Madhu has taught swimmers of every age in neighborhood pools. She teaches Yellow on Tuesdays and Thursdays and on Saturdays, and keeps a calm, steady voice on the deck.
Arden Gower
Instructor, Orange cap
Arden swam on a college club team and started teaching as a lifeguard at a summer pool. He teaches Orange on Mondays and Wednesdays and on Saturdays.
Samer Saab
Instructor, Green cap
Samer grew up swimming in Roanoke Valley pools and teaches Green on Tuesdays and Thursdays and on Saturdays. He likes a clear plan and a quick joke.
Eiji Iwata
Instructor, Blue cap
Eiji teaches Blue on Mondays and Wednesdays and on Saturdays. He coached a youth swim club before joining Seahorse and likes a swimmer to find their own rhythm.
Froylan Menjivar
Instructor, Purple cap
Froylan teaches Purple on Mondays and Wednesdays and leads the Saturday long sets. He has taught distance swimmers and beginners in the same week.
